| The ISAI Team is comprised of a dedicated group of carefully selected, highly skilled experts in information security research and policy, intrusion detection and forensic analysis. Each member brings a wealth of experience, ranging from technical consulting, teaching and research, and business development to this national research project. Core Team Executive Director - Steffani Burd, Ph.D. Dr. Steffani Burd is an expert in applying analytics to security issues of the private and public sectors. She provides empirically based solutions to clients' security needs by combining her post-graduate security training, doctoral education from Columbia University (Ph.D. 1998), and international consulting obtained at Ernst & Young in Sydney, Australia. Dr. Burd is a New York Police Department (NYPD) auxiliary police officer, incident commander for Citizens Emergency Response Team (CERT), Director of Research for the NY Metro InfraGard Alliance, nominated participant in the Secret Service Electronic Crimes Task Force and has been trained as an emergency manager through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). She speaks at conferences and is the author of several industry-related articles. She has been featured in over twenty popular press journals for her expertise and research in security, information technology, and psychology. Strategic Development Director - Scott Cherkin Mr. Scott Cherkin has been at the forefront of introducing emerging technologies and interactive marketing solutions to Fortune 500 companies for over ten years. Since 2001, he has applied his strategic marketing and business development skills to vendors specializing in secure information sharing and critical infrastructure protection for the Defense Department, Intelligence Community, and other Homeland Security organizations. Mr. Cherkin's current focus includes consulting to Internet start-ups and the founding of DealMine.com. He is also an active member of the NY Metro InfraGard Alliance and the OSD-sponsored Cross Domain Solutions Working Group (CDSWG) and a graduate of Pennsylvania State University. Advisors Policy Advisor - Andrew MacPherson Mr. Macpherson is a research Assistant Professor of Justice Studies in the University of New Hampshire's Justiceworks program. He also serves as the Director of the Technical Analysis Group, and advises the DHS National Cyber Security Division on state and local law enforcement matters. Previously he served at Dartmouth College's Institute for Security Technology Studies where he obtained funding from the DHS Office for Domestic Preparedness and National Institute of Justice, at the United Nations Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia and Cognos Inc. He received his M.A. from the London School of Economics and his B.A., cum laude, at Mercyhurst College. He has published studies including "Examining the Cyber Capabilities of Islamic Terrorist Groups" and Law Enforcement Tools and Technologies for Investigating Cyber Attacks: A National Research and Development Agenda". Research Advisor - W. Warner Burke, Ph.D. W. Warner Burke is the Edward Lee Thorndike Professor of Psychology and Education at Teachers College, Columbia University where he has been since 1979. His expertise is primarily in leadership and organization change. He recently received the Distinguished Scholar- Practitioner award from the Academy of Management. Technical Advisors Forensics Expert - Nasir Memon, Ph.D. Dr. Memon is a pioneer in the information security field and has generated numerous innovative programs and projects, including establishing the Polytechnic University’s Center of Excellence for Cybersecurity. Intrusion Detection Expert - Michael Poor Mr. Poor has extensive experience in information security and intrusion detection. He is very highly regarded in the field and works closely with professionals from SANS and other leading information security organizations and agencies. Forensics Analyst - Efstratios Gavas Mr. Gavas brings unique experience in information security and forensic analysis to ISAI. He has graduate-level education in this field as well as experience in a variety of forensic analysis methodologies and projects. Academic Institutions Specialist - Matthew Haschak Mr. Haschak is an Information Security Analyst at Bowling Green State University and the President of the Toledo InfraGard Member Alliance. He has a Masters in Business Administration and has worked in both the private and public sector as an Information Security Analyst over the past eight years. Marketing, Public Relations & Administration Public Relations Consultant - Aldina Tracey Ms. Aldina Tracey brings to organizations, institutions and individuals extensive experience as a public relations executive and management consultant. Her broad background, from a corporate and line perspective, includes strategic planning and marketing, media relations, spokesperson positioning, and organizational planning and strategizing. Project Coordinator - Sharon Borovetz Ms. Borovetz is responsible for coordinating the ISAI team. Her analytical and quantitative skills have been developed through her work at PriceWaterhouseCoopers and Van Cleef & Arpel. |
